Three cast members make their presentation to Alex Coates.

Performances by Watlington Young Players of Oliver! Jr last month have helped those less fortunate.

The cast and audience donated items for Downham Market Foodbank and, as a result, three boxes of groceries, animal food and hygiene products were presented to the food bank along with a £125 cheque from raffles held at the Watlington Village Hall shows.

Penny Cooke, on behalf of the young players, said  the start of the show is centred around children in a workhouse during the 19th century dreaming about “glorious food” instead of their meagre bowl of gruel.

“It seemed appropriate to think about those children today who are not getting enough to eat and their parents are relying upon food banks to help them,” she said.

The items were presented to Alex Coates, the centre manager and project co-ordinator of the food bank at Eternity at the Sovereign Centre. It is open Tuesdays and Fridays. Call 01366 384474 for details.
