Fireworks planned for tomorrow (Saturday) evening as part of the Hanseatic Watersports Festival in King’s Lynn have been cancelled on the advice of the county’s fire service due to the continued dry conditions.
The organisers have announced on social media: “It is with great regret that the organisers and committee members have decided to cancel this year’s firework display due to the following correspondence from the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service. While it is a disappointing outcome, we fully respect their advice and agree that it is not a risk worth taking.
“…Albeit we have had some ‘light showers’, it is the opinion and advise of the service that the firework display or use of any naked flame for the Hanseatic Ski Festival should not go ahead this weekend. This is due to the high risk of a potential fire from a firework due to the abnormal dry conditions we are experiencing as a county where many areas remain ‘tinder dry’…”
