A West Norfolk winery has been awarded the 2022 Wines of Great Britain gold medal with its sparkling rosé.
Farmer and winemaker Robert Perowne said last Friday’s award was a great honour for Cobble Hill Winery – a nine-acre vineyard at Burnham Market.
Vines were first planted in 2016 with the first wine produced in 2018. Mr Perowne’s family has farmed the land for generations and diversified into wine as well as producing onions and arable crops.
Last year’s harvest produced 15,000 bottles and the winery is hoping for a similar amount this year.
Cobble Hill Sparkling Rosé is a Champagne-style wine made from Pinot Noir grapes and takes two years to produce.
Mr Perowne said: “To be named alongside some of the finest vineyards in England is a great honour and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for English sparkling wine.
“We would like to thank our dedicated team here as well as our wonderful customers and stockists who have supported us so fantastically.”
Cobble Hill opened its new £250,000 winery last year.
