An inquest into the death of a man who was found with serious injuries following an incident in Downham Market has been opened.

It was heard at the Norfolk Coroner’s Court in Norwich yesterday (Tuesday) that Matthew Rodwell, 39, of Fincham, died on January 23 this year.

Police had been called to Bulrush Avenue in Downham following reports of a disturbance inside a house.

A medical cause of death was given as compression of the neck.

Jacqueline Lake, senior coroner for Norfolk, adjourned the inquest to October 25.

  • Father and son Wayne and Riley Peckham, both of Manby Close, Hilgay, have been charged with the murder of Mr Rodwell. Both men deny murder and a trial, which is expected to last for about two weeks, has been fixed for September 26. Both have been remanded in custody.
