FOOTBALL: Five wins from their final 11 games will see Heacham crowned Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination champions, just six years since leaving the North West Norfolk League.

A 3-1 win over Mundford on Saturday saw them stay a point ahead of Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers at the top of the table, but from six games fewer.

Heacham’s remarkable season has so far seen them win 18 of their 19 league matches, drawing the other one, and goals from man of the match Nathan Davies 2 and John Flanagan kept them on target for the title.

They had plenty of other chances and hit the woodwork several times in a good performance, boosted by the return to the squad of veteran striker Jack Defty, who set up the last goal.

Daniel King’s 21st goal of the season was not enough to earn Castle Acre Swifts reward in their Division Two encounter at Reepham Town Josh Carlton also scored in the 3-2 defeat.

A stunning strike from captain Stewart Scott capped a 2-1 win for Gayton United Reserves at Easton Reserves in Division Five North. Charlie Brindle got the other goal.
