A 42-year-old man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life following a house fire in Gayton.

Anthony Collins, of Birch Tree Close, King’s Lynn, was arrested at an address in south London on Christmas Day.

He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

The arrest comes after a blaze broke out at a house in Hall Farm Road, Gayton, in the early hours of December 19.

A woman in her 20s, who lived in the property, fled to a neighbouring house.

A man in his 30s who was also in the house at the time of the fire, suffered spinal injuries trying to escape the fire and was taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

Mr Collins has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, aggravated burglary, and assault.

He appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded into custody until his next court appearance.
