Former mayor Tony Bishopp has resigned from Hunstanton Town Council.
A statement issued by the council said it was not a decision taken lightly but arrived at after a number of considerations, “not least the need to look after his own and his wife’s, Joy’s, health at this time.”
Current mayor and council chairman Adrian Winnington said: “During Tony’s years on the town council he gave a tremendous amount of his time and knowledge to help move it forward.
“He made significant contributions to the council’s work in the community, especially in his two terms as mayor.
“These took place during the Covid pandemic and, despite having to shield, he was able to work with other groups in the town to help put actions in place to protect and provide support for residents.”
Town clerk Jan Roomes said Mr Bishopp’s departure would leave a “huge hole in Hunstanton Town Council.”
