High tides, strong north-westerly winds and a surge of low pressure led to a flood alert being issued for the West Norfolk coast yesterday (Thursday).

The River Great Ouse in King’s Lynn was flowing very high past South Quay while the tide was seen splashing over Hunstanton promenade, where the food gates were closed as a precaution.

However, at the time of going to press yesterday, the Environment Agency said coastal conditions were set to ease by the evening.

The roads were also affected, with flooding reported in the A149/Gayton Road area of Lynn following heavy rain.
