Man of the match Dan Stephenson at the top of the lineout.

RUGBY: West Norfolk Development team opened their league account with a 38-21 point victory against Swaffham at Gatehouse Lane.

West 2nds ‘loaned’ some players to the opposition and a decent game ensued.

West started the brighter and a well worked 5m lineout led to a try for Sam Carroll. West continued to dominate possession and the experienced half back pairing of Jack Slingsby and the dynamic Paul Denton brought the back line into play. This led to flowing tries from Ali Smith and debutant Lucas St Hilaire. Good defence helped West to two further tries as George Hanna pounced on a Swaffham mistake close to their line and St Hilaire picked up a loose ball to run in from the halfway line.

A few players swapped sides and the second half became slightly scrappier due to players playing out of position and fitness levels beginning to waver.

A West maul led to a try for Henry Rust.

Hilaire managed to cross for his hat-trick before Swaffham ran in three tries of their own.

Unfortunately a nasty injury to West player Alex Griffiths towards the end of the game overshadowed the scoreline and everyone from both teams wishes Alex a speedy recovery.
