A Piano Party organised by Heacham man John Harris, raised £530 for the NHS as a thank you for the efforts of staff during the pandemic.

Held last Saturday at the village’s Methodist Hall, the party included musical games, competitions, sing-alongs, hymn singing and requests.

Pianist Mr Harris was given a brief respite when Pauline Simpson played three semi-classical pieces.

There was no charge for admission or refreshments and the total was raised from donations.

Mr Harris said he has always loved playing the piano, although his career has been in languages.

From 1985 to 2012 he had presented a music and entertainment marathon in Heacham, raising money for charities including multiple sclerosis research as his wife Rosemary had been diagnosed with MS in 1971 and died this February.

Having successfully staged this weekend’s event, which was initially postponed due to Covid restrictions, Mr Harris now hopes to present a platinum jubilee gala event next June.
