HOCKEY: Pelicans Men’s first team finished their pre-season preparations with a 6-1 win at Norwich Dragons.

The intensity of their attacking resulted in three goals during the first half. They made it 4-0 early in the second half and added two more late on after the hosts had pulled one back.

Scorers were Sam Phillips 2, Toby Phillips, Ian Simmons, Will Lankfer and Sid Carpenter.

The ladies first team also got another friendly under their belts ahead of next week’s expected league start.

Visitors Wisbech proved generous before the game, loaning their hosts a goalkeeper. Although Pelicans have a sizeable squad, they had no goalkeeper available.

Unfortunately for Pelicans that was where the generosity ended as the visitors rattled up a 7-0 win.

Pelicans Ladies Seconds were also in action against their Cambridgeshire neighbours and again it was Wisbech who took the honours.

However, this time Pelicans did manage to find the net in a 5-1 defeat.

It was the first match of the season for Pelicans but, despite the fact the team had not played together before, they started well, with some good movement off the ball.

Wisbech converted four of their first-half chances, despite the efforts of Cerys Millard who had stepped up from the Thirds to play in goal.

Pelicans picked up the pace in the second half and were unlucky to concede another goal but rewarded with one of their own in return.

The day’s other match saw the Men’s Second team draw 3-3 with Norwich Dragons.
