Villagers turned out to pay their respects at the rededication of Hilgay’s war memorial last Saturday.

The memorial had been showing signs of deterioration for a number of years and was taken away by a stonemason where it was cleaned and repaired and new footings were also dug.

The weekend service was led by the Royal British Legion, with representatives from the RAF, police and USAF in attendance.

Parish council chairman Graham Carter said: “Everyone joined in which was really lovely. Hilgay Silver Band performed and children from the village school sang some songs.”

After the service an event was held at All Saints Church where the band played, and there were displays of war memorabilia as well as poems written by pupils. Mr Carter thanked parish councillors Norman Higham and Zara Lipsey for organising the rededication.
