CRICKET: A strong North Runcton team had to dig deep to overcome a determined Bradfield in the Hunts County Bats Senior Cup Final at Horsford.
North Runcton won the toss and elected to bat. They lost an early wicket but then their impressive top order delivered a match winning-performance.
Captain and opener Michael Crisp (31) was followed by Ben Coote (34 no). They were ably assisted by Harry Lankfer (18) and Sam Phillips (17) in a limited overs scramble to amass as many runs as possible.
The format was 16 eight ball overs and the North Runcton innings closed on 124/5. The pick of the Bradfield bowling was Michael Jones (3-26).
In reply, Bradfield made a spirited attempt to cross the winning line, which created a nail-biting and tense drama.
Opener Alex Johnson (19), Sridhar Tenjarla (21) and Chris Scannell (13) scored at more than a run a ball before man of the match Kirwin Christoffels stepped in and produced an all round match-winning performance. He took 3-30 and held two sharp catches to remove Bradfield’s middle order.
Owen White then demolished the tail with as spell of 3-11 in just 15 balls as Bradfield were bowled out for 108.
Mid-Norfolk Sunday League chairman Colin King said: “t was a wonderful sunny day and Horsford looked at its best. We were treated to a feast of high octane cricket. North Runcton proved to be worthy winners.”
Christoffels received a voucher for a handmade bespoke cricket bat worth £300, courtesy of Hunts County Bats.
