ATHLETICS: New boy Arran Reeve was first home for West Norfolk AC in the Wissey Half Marathon.

He clocked 1.25.49, with Ben Collison cruising round in 1.36, shortly followed by Neil Watson. Debbie Schwarz finished strongly in 1.43.

The Vets team competed in the final EMAC league match at Lynnsport. 

A depleted men’s team finished third on the evening and third overall. Ian Reeve (V60) competed in many events, coming first in the 300m hurdles and javelin. He was also second in the 200m, third in the shot, and second in the V50 pole vault and triple jump.

In the V50 category, Ricky Bailey finished second in the shot, javelin and 200m.

John Greenhalgh ran well in the mile to come second. 

Matt Lamb claimed a win in the V35 triple jump and was second in the 200m.

Lee Tunmore won the shot and was third in the javelin. Neil Watson claimed second in the 400m hurdles, with Ben Collison second in the mile. In the thrilling final event of the evening, the team of Collison, Lamb, Tunmore and Watson finished second in the 4,2,2,4 relay.

The women’s ‘team’ consisted only of Katrina Wasteney in the V35 category, which meant another fourth place finish on the night and in the series. She was third in the mile and fourth in the 200m, shot and javelin.

The final match of the East Anglian Athletics League in Peterborough saw West Norfolk team up with Dereham AC to form a composite team and finish third overall with the senior men and women second in their matches.

The Gosnell family came out in force with dad, mum, and two of their sons all competing.

Senior women’s athlete Amelia Barton, who has recently joined the club, entered five events, while Lily Edwards competed after a busy weekend of competition at the 2021 National Schools Para-games.

Boys – u17: C Tansey 1st long jump. L Preston 2nd B 100m, 3rd 800m, 2nd javelin. 

u15: T O’Neill 1st long jump, 3rd 800m, 2nd javelin. T Cheesborough 3rd 1500m.

u13: K Peggs 1st 75m hurdles, 1st long jump. C Broad 1st long jump, 2nd javelin, 4th 100m. H Gosnell long jump, 3rd shot, 3rd 800m.

u11: M Gilboy 1st 80m, 3rd 600m, long jump. H Lesniak shot put, long jump. L Anderson 80m, 600m. W Gosnell, long jump.

Girls – u13: E Clayton 2nd 200m, 3rd 800m. M Lesniak 1st 70m hurdles, 1st discus, 2nd high jump. D Wathan 4th 100m A, 3rd A long jump. E Sooley 4th 100m B, long jump.

u15: E Theobald, 3rd 100m B. E Broad 2nd 100m, 2nd long jump.

U20 brothers Alfie Williams (shot) and Charlie Williams (discus) guested in the open competitions at Moulton College in Northamptonshire for a festival of throwing.

Alfie came first in the open shot with a club record and personal best of 14.67m. 

On day two he finished second with 14.30m.

Charlie gave a good account with a 39.63m throw on day one and a 35.90m throw on day two.
