With winter not so far away players at Watlington Football Club were in desperate need of a new changing room.

After having to change on the pitch side, the club, with the support of the parish council, was given a second hand unit in need of some work.

An online fundraising page was set up and within a few days, enough was raised to get to work and coaches, players and fans stepped up to help.

Club treasurer Vicky Corielle said: “Within a few days the ground was prepped and the unit delivered.

“The changing facility has already had a new coat of paint, electrics sorted, finishing boards applied, the inside will soon have flooring, frosted windows, then the club can start adding it’s finishing touches.

“With all the work going on, passers-by have taken an interest and stopped to ask questions and so far the club has had compliments and praise as many know this is long overdue.”

The club has thanked MRC Construction and Nick Langford for the donation of the unit, Jacks Restaurant at Woodlakes, Kevin Holland at the Solar Shed Company in Magdalen, for sponsorship, JBE Services and GWL Carpentry for their contributions for the internal work and everyone else who has contributed financially or by giving up their time.

• The club is holding a Mini Kickers Development session for six  to 11-year-olds on Saturday, September 11, from 10am to 11.30am.

Sessions will be held throughout the season to encourage young players to form teams and compete the following year.

Each session is £2 per player. Contact Vicky on 07450 209311.
