ATHLETICS: Day one of the Norfolk County Athletics Championships took place at UEA SportsPark Norwich with success for West Norfolk athletes across the age groups.

Brothers Alfie and Charlie Williams were in fantastic form, showing their continued dominance in the throws. 

Alfie won gold, set a club record and broke a county championship record that had stood since 1985 with a 14.40m throw in the shot. Charlie, meanwhile, won silver in the same event with a season’s best 11.47. 

The roles were reversed in the discus with Charlie winning gold, setting a club record 39.65, with Alfie taking silver with 36.58.

U13 girls athlete Mia Lesniak claimed gold in the discus with a 19.03 throw, setting another club record. She also finished seventh in 15.7 in her heat of the 100m and seventh in the long jump with 3.49, all three being PBs.

Mia’s brother, u11 athlete Harrison Lesniak won bronze in the 80m flat race in 13.3sec and was seventh in the 600m, 2.18.0. U11 girl Myley Gilboy also ran in the 80m flat race, finishing just outside the medals for fourth place in 12.4.

Sisters Lily and Lucy Edwards were both crowned county champions. U20s (T20/F20) athlete Lily won double gold with a 2.35 leap in the long jump and a 3.80 season best performance in the shot.

Senior women’s athlete Lucy won long jump gold with a 4.59 leap and silver in the 100m, 14.4.

The u13 boys age group did not disappoint as they battled to achieve medals with continued success. Charlie Broad won long jump gold, equalling his personal best with a 4.39 leap and winning javelin silver with a 25.97 PB throw.

Marcus Wood won shot gold with a PB throw of 8.23.

Kai Peggs won 100m bronze with a 14.8 run, equalling his PB and also finished fifth in the long jump, 3.78.

Senior man (T20/F20) Cameron Ross won long jump gold with a 4.32 leap and 100m silver medal in a season’s best run of 13.8.

U15 boy Thomas O’Neill won javelin silver with a 26.76 throw and came eighth overall after finishing third in his 800m time trial in 2.28.4. He also came third in his 100m heat in 13.2.

Senior man Jack Pishorn won a silver medal in the discus with a 17.55 throw.
