SPEEDWAY: The frustration piled up for King’s Lynn team manager Alex Brady with two narrow Premiership defeats.
The Minors & Brady Stars’ recent revival came to an end as a powerful Sheffield Tigers side raced to a 49-41 at the Adrian Flux Arena on Monday after a 46-44 defeat at derby rivals Ipswich Witches last Thursday.
The Yorkshire club’s recent team changes paid off with Josh Pickering and Stefan Nielsen both impressing, while the home side ran out of race wins in the second half.
The Stars made a positive start with four winners in the opening four races, although the visitors were already serving notice of their potential.
The visitors struck a 5-1 in Heat 5 with the spectacular Pickering being joined by Jack Holder for victory over Lewis Kerr and Erik Riss.
Sheffield led by four points at the halfway stage although the hosts hit back in Heat 9 when Erik Riss switched inside the impeded Danyon Hume to complete a 5-1 with Kerr.
Lynn’s hopes were shattered in Heat 11, despite the introduction of Richard Lawson as a tactical substitute alongside Thomas Jorgensen. After they were frustrated by a fast gate from Holder, they were then stunned by a brilliant ride by Pickering to round Lawson and then go inside Jorgensen for a remarkable second place.
Stars boss Alex Brady said: “It’s a tough result to take. The performance from a lot of the boys was very good, but we couldn’t get out of the starts in the crucial heats.
“We had some good heat winners but we couldn’t pack the minor places, which is crucial in every meeting, and it just wasn’t our night.”
The Stars missed out in a dramatic last-heat decider at Ipswich when they were denied a draw when home captain Danny King and Lynn’s Erik Riss clashed going into the third turn of the vital race and Riss came down.
Co-promoter Dale Allitt said: “The boys gave it everything, Alex (Brady) worked superbly with them.”
