Vandals have ruined much-loved outside areas at Howard Junior School and King’s Oak Academy in Gaywood.
At around 4pm on Sunday a group of young people were seen entering Howard school grounds and CCTV showed them on the premises for around two hours.
An outdoor library was damaged and books were thrown about, the wildlife garden and a water feature were smashed and tents used on sports day were stolen.
The forest school area was also broken into with equipment thrown over the fence.
Damage was also caused at King’s Oak Academy where outdoor toys were damaged and stolen.
Howard Junior School deputy headteacher Ash Kirwan said: “It’s not an ideal start to the summer holidays. The wildlife garden, which we’ve developed over a number of years, has been damaged – ornaments have been broken and plant pots smashed.”
Mr Kirwan said the offenders returned to the school on Monday but staff were on the premises and alerted police. He added he understood one person had been arrested.
The community was quick to rally round with offers of support and an appeal for replacement items was launched.
Mr Kirwan said: “The community has been really kind in its offers of help.”
