BOWLS: Bowlers from Wootton Park have enjoyed a fantastic week at the English Bowls Federation Norfolk finals.
The ladies finals at Holt Bowls Club were limited in numbers for West Norfolk players but June Hudson and Angie Royle showed quality rather than quantity was the key to silverware with an exceptional 21-08 victory over Kay Carrick and Jill Carr, from Norfolk Bowls Club, Norwich, in the senior pairs final.
They will now represent Norfolk at Skegness in August.
Sunday saw the men and mixed teams in action at Great Plumstead Bowls Club.
In the u25 singles, Wootton Park’s Regan Simper found the green a bit too quick for his liking and lost to Luke Clapham 21-9 and the two-bowl singles saw Tom Baker, also from Wootton Park, lose
21-15 to Wayne Burrage in a tight encounter.
However, there was joy for Andy Sayer and Richard Bunton (Wootton Park) in the pairs, where they beat Dennis George and Paul High 19-8.
Sayer followed that up with success in the veteran singles, where he beat Richard A Dungar 21-8.
Sayer also lost in two other tight finals. He was with Jane Watson and Richard Bunton in the mixed rinks and lost 20-16 to Jane Cockrill, Graham Punchard and David Lamb. With Mike Smith and Bunton again in the triples, he lost 21-17 to Robert Brooks, Edward Lambert and Gary Hewitt.
All winners will represent Norfolk in the EBF National finals.
