Grease will be the word when a West Norfolk amateur dramatics group takes to the stage for its 120th anniversary production in the autumn.

After nearly two years of negotiation, King’s Lynn Operatic and Dramatic Society (KLODS) is to stage the smash-hit musical.

Grease – the Musical, will be its anniversary show with performances at the town’s St George’s Guildhall from Wednesday, October 6 to October 9.

And now, a “dedicated and talented” cast is being sought.

A workshop will be held on Monday, June 28 before auditions on Thursday, July 1.

The cast will be rekindling the famous 1959 Rydell High School’s senior class, following the fortunes of the too-cool-for-school Burger Palace Boys and the Pink Ladies.

Of course, at the heart of the story is the romance between Danny Zuko and the sweet new girl in town, Sandy Dumbrowski.

Their secret summer romance is thrown into the limelight back at school as peer pressure makes their love a bit more complicated.

The musical has a host of well-known hits including Greased Lightnin’, We Go Together and You’re the One That I Want with music which arguably became the soundtrack of a generation.

Starting off with an eight-year Broadway run, Grease is among the world’s most popular musicals and is a hit with all ages.

KLODS show will be directed by resident director and vice chairman Hayley Dennis, who said: “This fast moving show will need a cast who are good singers and have the ability to dance well, as many of the staged numbers will be more than a little energetic.

“That is why KLODS is holding a workshop on June 28 before the auditions on July 1, both these will be held at the KLODS building in St George’s Courtyard at 7.30pm.”

KLODS chairman David Nash added: “Much has changed during lockdown with theatrical licenses and with the Guildhall now being a venue of demand, the start of the rehearsals to the opening night is about three months.

“Therefore KLODS is looking for a dedicated and talented cast to make this family classic show take King’s Lynn by storm, well, Greased Lightnin to be more precise!”
