George Russell on his way to 14th place on the streets of Monaco.

MOTOR SPORT: George Russell finished the Monaco Grand Prix in 14th place as Williams celebrate their 750th Formula 1 race.

The King’s Lynn-born driver picked up a place on the opening lap when Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was forced to retire his car. He was quickly overtaken by the Alpine of Fernando Alonso but a steady race saw him hold position for 33 of the 78-lap race before gaining two places when he took advantage of his early pit stop.

Russell attempted to hunt down Alonso but the gap proved too great.
