A.J Coggles Family Funeral Directors has announced plans to move to larger premises in Downham Market.

The family-run firm, established in 1851, is to relocate from its Bridge Street base to the former Barclays bank, also in Bridge Street.

An extensive refurbishment is planned with a view to opening in the late summer.

The new branch will feature two chapels of rest, one large enough for functions with up to 30 people.

“This multi-use space will allow for small services to take place, seminars and coffee charity mornings and is hoped to be able to hold a regular bereavement cafe with guest speakers,” a spokesman said.

“This will be of course subject to further Covid regulations and restrictions lifting.”

Barclays closed its Downham branch in 2019.
