A ceremony has been held online to mark the 100th anniversary of the war memorial in King’s Lynn’s Tower Gardens.
The ceremony was held virtually due to the pandemic. The historic memorial was dedicated and unveiled on January 26, 1921 by Princess Mary.
It commemorated the 570 men from the borough of Lynn who died in the First World War.
On October 15, 2010, the memorial was re-dedicated after a new inscription to recognise all those who have fallen during and since the Second World War.
West Norfolk Mayor Geoff Hipperson recorded a message which can be seen on the council’s website along with a blessing by Father Adrian Ling conducted at Tower Gardens.
Archivist Luke Shackell has also created a video about the history of the monument which has also been posted on the council website.
