With Christmas behind us and thoughts turning to hopefully a brighter New Year, we want to remind readers the Your Local Paper Winter Appeal remains open for a few more weeks.

Generous readers have donated around £9,000 to help King’s Lynn Foodbank, The Purfleet Trust and King’s Lynn Winter Night Shelter since the appeal was launched at the end of October.

The money will be used to buy essential items and help the charities continue to support those most vulnerable during the coldest months of the year.

Charities have struggled to fundraise since the pandemic began last year and the first few months of 2021 are looking just as daunting, with even tighter restrictions potentially being introduced.

The Purfleet Trust, based at Austin Fields, is using your donations to support its new venture – Purfleet Warehouse Project.

The multi-functional warehouse facility will be used for storing donations including food, clothes, furniture and household goods and delivering training courses and activities.

The charity’s chief executive Paula Hall has written to YLP’s managing director Alan Taylor to thank the paper for its ongoing support.

The charity has remained open and  operational throughout lockdown and is “reimaging its  Health and Wellbeing Centre and services” to work within government guidelines and the changing needs of clients.

“The support you have shown us has been invaluable and has really helped us to make sure everyone we work with can feel safe, valued and supported,” the letter said.

This year the night shelter, based at its new home in St John’s House in The Walks, is open 24 hours a day for the first time, providing an evening meal, a safe place to sleep and a warm welcome for those in need.

At the food bank, based at TS Vancouver on the South Quay, donations have helped to buy essential items for three-day emergency food parcels for those in need in the run up to Christmas and beyond.

Cheques for the charities can be taken directly to their premises or dropped into the Your Local Paper office at 29 King Street, King’s Lynn, PE30 1ET for us to forward on your behalf.

Please make cheques payable to: King’s Lynn Winter Night Shelter, The Purfleet Trust and King’s Lynn Foodbank.
