FOOTBALL: There was a lack of on-field action at the weekend but off the pitch things were hectic at The Walks, writes Lewis Hawkins

On Friday, summer signing Jamar Loza departed to return to fellow National League side Woking. Loza made 11 appearances for the Linnets, scoring four goals.

A club spokesman said: “Jamar told the football management he was unhappy at the club. Shortly after a bid was received from Woking and almost immediately rejected. An improved offer was made and this time the bid was more in keeping with our valuation and was accepted.”

On Monday, winger Michael Gyasi was signed from St Ives but director of football Rob Back said he was not a replacement for Loza, adding: “He is a very good prospect and we are looking forward to see what he will do.

“However, he is not a direct replacement for Loza and the club are still in the market for a player.”

Saturday sees the Linnets take on former FA Cup winners and Football League founding members Notts County in what is expected to be in front of a sell-out Walks crowd.

However, Monday’s game at Chesterfield has been postponed due to members of the Derbyshire club’s squad having positive Covid-19 tests.
