Our amazing Your Local Paper readers just keep on giving and we can’t thank you enough.
Almost £5,000 has been raised for our annual Winter Appeal to help King’s Lynn based charities the Winter Night Shelter, the food bank and the Purfleet Trust.
Chief executive of the Purfleet Trust Paula Hall has said a “huge thank you” to everyone for their support.
She said: “I am amazed but not surprised at the kindness and generosity of people in our community who always support those in need.
“We will be able to use this essential funding to support our new venture, Purfleet Warehouse project.
“This latest initiative will provide us with the opportunity to deliver additional services that will directly support vulnerable homeless people including those with complex needs; mental health, drug and alcohol dependency, offending and domestic abuse.
“The warehouse facility will be multi-functional. We will use it for: storage of donations including clothes, food and other donations; furniture donations for our House2Home project – providing household furniture and goods that we can help individuals to move into their own accommodation and turn it from a house to a home; deliver training courses to help individuals secure vocational qualifications and improve access to paid employment; encourage individuals to participate in activities including work experience that will help them gain the skills, confidence and stamina to move into their own accommodation as well as into work.
“We are all really excited about this initiative and look forward to sharing news about it with your readers who have helped to make this happen.”
This season is the first time the Winter Night Shelter has been open 24 hours a day and not just at night. At its new base, at St John’s House in The Walks, it provides a safe haven with food and a bed for the night.
The food bank, based at TS Vancouver on South Quay, is helping to feed families who have fallen on hard times. It is asking for money donations and some festive treats such as Christmas puddings, chocolate treats, selection packs and biscuits.
Food items should be taken directly to the food bank.
Our appeal will remain open throughout the winter and cheques can be dropped into our office.
Make cheques payable to: King’s Lynn Winter Night Shelter, The Purfleet Trust and King’s Lynn Foodbank. They can be taken to: Your Local Paper, 29 King Street, King’s Lynn, PE30 1ET.
