A 33-year-old man who robbed a Gaywood petrol station has been jailed for three years.

Gareth Lloyd, of Willow Park, Lynn, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court last Monday after pleading guilty to the robbery on September 19 last year.

He was also found to be in breach of a suspended prison sentence.

The court heard Lloyd entered the Jet garage in Lynn Road at around 10.20pm and became aggressive towards the cashier.

Lloyd claimed he had a knife and forced his way behind the counter, punching the cashier before stealing alcohol and cigarettes worth £232.

The cashier, who suffered a minor injury, called the police and provided a description of the robber.

At around 4am the following morning, a man fitting the suspect’s description was spotted in Lynn Road by a police officer.

He was stopped and found in possession of items stolen from the garage, the court heard.

Speaking this week, investigating officer, Detective Constable Heather Chisholm, said: “During this robbery, Lloyd made threats to the cashier who believed he was armed with a knife, although one was never seen.

“We’re grateful to the victim for providing such a detailed description of the suspect which ultimately led to his swift arrest six hours after the incident happened.”
