There was more uncertainty for the High Street this week with job losses looming at several big name firms.

Pizza Express, which has a restaurant in King’s Lynn, said it is considering closing 67 branches, putting 1,100 jobs at risk.

The list of restaurants has not been revealed, but the chain said restructuring the business would help it survive the new social distancing guidelines.

Bookmakers William Hill also announced plans to shut 119 shops, affecting around 200 staff.

It is not known if the Lynn branch will be among the closures.

WH Smith is also set  to make 1,500 staff redundant and blamed the drop in High Street footfall.

The number of workers facing redundancy nationally as a result of the coronavirus crisis is now reported to be more than 100,000.
