Happy days. Ian Culverhouse and Adam Marriott with their awards.

FOOTBALL: King’s Lynn Town strike pair Michael Gash and double award-winning Adam Marriott cannot wait to hit the ground running in the National League.

Players were at The Walks on Thursday to collect their league winners medals and celebrate with their team mates.

As well as receiving the league title trophy, a clean sweep of National League North awards saw Marriott collect the Player of the Season and Golden Boot honours, while Ian Culverhouse was named Manager of the Year and the club also won the Team of the Season award, which was collected by chairman Stephen Cleeve.

There had been lots of speculation surrounding the future of fans’ favourite Marriott but he has agreed to stay and said: “The decision wasn’t all about me, it’s the family as well.

“I’m pretty settled where I am but it was something I had to weigh up.

“I love this club so I didn’t want to leave, if I’m honest. It was just working out that if an offer came in that I couldn’t refuse I probably would have gone. That didn’t happen, so I’m delighted to be a Lynn player again.

“I didn’t fancy another long slog in the Conference North – that was a long slog of a season – and there’s more games closer to home this season in the Prem.

“I just can’t wait to get going. I think we will give it a good go.

Gash is also chomping at the bit to get going again and said: “It was a strange season but I think nobody can argue with the way it was dealt with.

“With what’s going on in the world and the country, the level we are at, I think points-per-game was the best way to finish it. Thankfully we finished top and it’s well deserved.

“I’ve had a couple of promotions before but this is right up there, especially after last year. To do it back-to-back and to now go into a league with four or five full-time clubs in it is a fantastic achievement.

“Everybody at the club and involved with the Linnets should be proud and looking forward to next season.”
