Tribute has been paid to a former King’s Lynn harbour master who died last month.

Captain David Garside (pictured) was harbour master for 23 years from 1944 to 1967, looking after the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of the harbour authority.

Current harbour master Patrick Jary said Capt Garside, who died on June 26, was “well respected by all and a great character”.

He had moved to Cockshutt, Ellesmere with his wife Christine following retirement in 1999.

Capt Garside’s ashes are to be scattered in The Wash and Capt Jary said King’s Lynn Conservancy Board would be helping the family with this request.
