Teacher Kathryn Hare and colleagues at Nelson Academy have fun recreating famous works of art.

A fun-filled arty challenge has been lifting spirits at a Downham Market school.

Staff at Nelson Academy have been recreating famous works of art at home and sharing the results via email to brighten their days during lockdown.

The school is open for the children of key workers and staff are still busy working on a rota system, but principal Sarah Wilson said they were all missing pupils and colleagues immensely.

The challenge was set by assistant principal Glen Rossiter who has been striving to boost morale, including hosting a weekly online quiz.

Art lead Gill Sekatawa was initially inspired by the global Getty Museum Challenge which has seen thousands of people recreate Getty artworks using households items.

“What started as a small idea mentioned, soon became an artistic adventure enjoyed by lots of our staff members – some of whom even roped in family members or unsuspecting pets,” she said. Nelson pupils are now being challenged to have a go as part of their home learning.
