A man has been sent to prison for six months for a string of offences in King’s Lynn including assault and coughing in the faces of emergency workers on arrest.

Police were called to the Vancouver Quarter around 11.35am on Saturday following a report that supermarket staff had detained a man on suspicion of shoplifting.

A police spokesman said the man assaulted a number of shop workers and members of the public as they tried to detained him and was verbally abusive.

Zygimantas Klimas, 23, of no fixed address, was arrested and subsequently charged with one count of using threatening, abusive or insulting words behaviour to cause harassment, alarm and distress, one count of theft and five counts of assault.

He admitted all the offences when he appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court via video link on Monday. Magistrates sentenced him six months’ imprisonment.
