FOOTBALL: King’s Lynn Town FC received communication on Tuesday from the National League to say the season has now been suspended ‘indefinitely’ until further notice.
It means we must continue to wait for answers as to how the leagues will be decided.
Before I go any further, I must reiterate that my main thoughts, along with everyone, are with those people affected by this dreadful coronavirus situation that has the country in a vice-like grip at the moment.
It looks as if it will be a ‘wait-and-see’ scenario for a few weeks as the experts continue to re-evaluate numbers and trends before our lives can return to a little normality.
Although we still await a decision in regards to ourselves, for Step 3 football and below the Football Association have declared the season null and void with no promotions or relegations .
For our reserve team in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League, the decision has not made much difference as we were looking at a finish outside of the top and bottom of the table but for local rivals Downham Town it is a different story.
They have had a great season and were in with a decent shout of promotion. Quite rightly, they are not pleased that their efforts look like having been in vain, which is a shame.
A letter, endorsed by about 60 clubs has been sent to the FA registering their displeasure as to how matters have been resolved. I’m not sure this will make any impression on the powers-that-be but the discontent being shown further down the pyramid may change the school of thought by those tasked with making a decision about the level above.
My hope is that we get answers soon so we can at least try to formulate something of a plan for the next season.
λ I must thank the many people who have donated so generously to the club to assist during these difficult times.
I never cease to be amazed by the kindness shown towards the club shown by so many.
At the last count about £4,000 had been raised on the Justgiving page on Facebook and through the donation section on the club’s website www.kltown.co.uk
We have also received some cheques, which have all been added to the fund.
