Do your bit from the safety of home by donating to a new £5,000 charitable fund launched this week

A new £5,000 community appeal has been launched to help look after both staff and patients as the fight against coronavirus continues at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

West Norfolk has already shown “fantastic” support for the dedicated team caring for an increasing number of COVID-19 cases at the King’s Lynn hospital.

Donations of all kinds have flooded in since the outbreak began, from pizzas and potatoes to fresh milk and even microwaves so hardworking staff can re-heat late night meals on the go.

Despite the government lockdown, the community can continue to show its support by donating via the hospital’s new online giving page for “extra things as needs arise”.

Contributions large and small will be used to help boost the morale and wellbeing of frontline staff working around the clock and to buy any extra resources found to be needed by patients.

Care packages containing toiletries will be made up for night teams and more quiet areas created within the QEH where staff can take a much-needed break from their sometimes gruelling clinical duties.

Hospital chairman Professor Steve Barnett said: “The local community has been fantastic and the donations in kind we have received have proved invaluable for our staff who are going above and beyond to care for the increasing number of patients affected by COVID-19 and to keep everyone safe.

“The public and local businesses have really rallied to provide food and other supplies for our staff who are working incredibly hard to deliver the best care for patients, in challenging circumstances.

“We greatly appreciate the support we are receiving. Thank you.”

The QEH COVID-19 Support Fund page, on the JustGiving website, has around £400 raised so far.

Deliveries to hospital staff have included fruit, cakes, soft drinks and bottled water as well as toiletries for personal care packages.

Householders and businesses have also offered free accommodation for frontline staff unable to get home.

Cheques payable to the QEH COVID-19 Support Fund 41020 can be sent to the finance department at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust PE30 4ET.
