BADMINTON: Eighteen women from Lynnsport’s Monday morning ladies badminton group took part in their annual Christmas competition, run by coach Janis Baker.
Names were put into a hat and drawn for partners, playing eight games against all the other pairings in a round robin.
Maribel Lawrence and Janet Atkins did not lose a single game in the group, with their closest game against Linda Watkinson and Trish Knudsen, which they won 15-13.
Second place was a lot closer, with Suen Miller and Jane Cornwall needing to beat the two octogenarians who were drawn together, Margaret Toll and Marion Wilson, to take the runners-up trophies.
However, the senior pair had their best game of the day, winning 15-4. That let in Hazel Greenfield and Kathryn Baker, who in their final game won
15-13 to take second place.
Alive’s director of business development Tommy Goode presented the trophies.
A collection for West Norfolk Self Advocacy Project, which is a group run by and for people with learning disabilities, raised £18.
The Monday morning ladies group returns on January 6, 9.30am. Booking is not required and refreshments are served in the café in the Sandringham Suite afterwards. Equipment is also available and everyone is welcome.
