West Norfolk Junior Badminton players who received expert coaching from national champion Lydia Powell.

BADMINTON: West Norfolk Junior Badminton welcomed national coach Lydia Powell to King’s Lynn last weekend.

Powell, 23, is a former National Junior champion, a member of the World Junior Championships team 2014, u19 European Team Silver and multiple international medal winner in Switzerland, Israel, Italy, Poland and Latvia.

She gave squad members an extended training session after earlier running a series of classes for children from various junior clubs across the borough.

The children benefitted from Powell’s extensive experience from her years being coached in the national squad as she put them through their paces with routines that included serves, net shots, clears and footwork, plus plenty of time for fun games.

A Christmas raffle was held and the top prize, a Forza racket bag signed by Powell, was won by Fletcher Wenn.

The star guest was assisted by West Norfolk coaches Ben Watts, Norma Bowen, Jess Bateman, club captain Leo Fonzo and squad manager, Roger Cetti.
