BADMINTON: A large group of players from West Norfolk Junior Badminton were at the club’s 12th annual coaching weekend at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.
The event was organised by squad manager Roger Cetti and the 27 players included guests from Norwich and Dereham. They ranged in age from 12 to 18 and were put through their paces by England coaches Liz Cann, Lydia Powell and Greg Mairs.
Cann is a five-time English national singles champion and also won six international tournaments, as well as individual and team bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth games in India.
Powell was u19 national champion and represented England at the European Juniors championships, while Mairs won the Estonia international men’s doubles and Slovenia mixed doubles titles this year.
The group was accompanied by Cetti and West Norfolk coaches Robin Cooper, Ben Watts, Norma Bowen and Helaine Wyett, with assistant coach Jess Bateman and Norwich coach Serena Verney.
The coaches taught the youngsters footwork and technical skills, using multi-feed practices for defence, singles positioning, communication and rotation tactics in doubles.
They used their new skills in a fun competition during the final session, with some children getting the opportunity to play alongside an international player.
