A fundraising weekend has been planned in honour of a five-year-old girl battling a rare type of bone cancer.

Members of the community are set to come together for #TEAMLILY to support Lily Wright as she battles Chordoma, which affects around one in 20 million children.

Next weekend a 24-hour cyclothon, football tournament and fun day are planned to raise funds for two causes which have been supporting Lily and her parents, Emma and John  Wright, who all live in Tilney All Saints.

It will begin at 1pm on Friday, October 25, at Hughes in Norfolk Street, King’s Lynn, with staff cycling through the night in store until 2pm the following day.

Senior sales advisor Tom Hunn said his daughter Josie, five, was friends with Lily at Tilney All Saints Primary School so he wanted to do something to help.

Mr Hunn said: “Lily always has a beautiful smile and is a joy to be around, so understandably everyone was heartbroken to hear that she had been diagnosed.”

On Sunday, October 27, at 10am, a football tournament and fun day is set to take place at Tilney St Lawrence Village Hall and playing field.

There will be a 32 six-a-side teams with trophies to be won.

The day will include a barbecue, raffle, drinks stall, cake stall, dinky pony rides and a vintage fire engine.

Family friend Danielle Beales, who has organised the event with husband Aaron, said: “When we found out about Lily’s diagnosis we felt helpless  and wanted to make it better for them.

“The only thing we can do is offer our emotional support, fundraise and raise awareness for a cancer which is so rare and underfunded. We are hoping the fun day and football tournament will be successful.”

Currently, Lily is undergoing radiotherapy at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge to treat the rare form of childhood cancer.

Funds from the weekend’s events will go to the cancer ward at Addenbrooke’s and The Drew Barker-Wright Charity.
