Medals delight for Karen Wood and Maureen Wolfe.

TRIATHLON: King’s Lynn Triathlon Club members took on their final triathlon of the season and celebrated age group wins from three ladies in the over 55 categories.

The Woodlands Leisure Triathlon is normally a picturesque super sprint through the rolling countryside of Sheringham.

However, the club’s seven competitors faced rain, mud and a waterlogged run route.

However, they were not deterred, completing the 300m swim, 17km bike and 3km trail run and coming home with a haul of medals!

Maureen Wolfe was the first team member to cross the line in 1.03.09. She was also 9th lady overall and 1st in her age category.

Karen Wood finished 12th female overall in 1.04.59 and 1st in her age category.

Paul Dunthorne put in the fastest swim of the team (7.02) which helped him cross the line in an amazing 1.05.59. Darren Elsdon was next to finish his first triathlon in 1.09.09.

He said: “I did not enter the triathlon to set the world on fire. I went to find out what it was like and to test myself.

“The club coach Jess Cunningham gave me the confidence to try this and I can’t speak highly enough of the club because everyone is so friendly.”

Helen Mitchell finished 2nd in her age group in 1.13.17, followed by the team’s 3rd age group winner, Pauline Sparrow in 1.17.43.

A soggy Vicky Dunthorne finished her first triathlon season by crossing the line in 1.33.58.

Meanwhile, away from the triathlon scene, Jemma Redhead had another successful weekend. Saturday saw her take part in King’s Lynn Cycling Club’s open time trial.

Redhead cycled 10 miles in 26.07 securing her 1st place in the women’s category.

On Sunday, she completed her first marathon at the Ely Run Fest.

Despite the torrential rain and flooded paths, she crossed the line in 5.42.08.

Club members are now focussing on their off season training. Training sessions are open to both non-members and non-triathletes.
