GOLF: King’s Lynn Golf Club captain Nigel Chettleburgh and ladies’ captain Anita Goddard held their charity day and attracted international interest.

Among the 128 players taking part from Lynn and 25 other clubs was Mark Day, who plays at Riyadh GC, in Saudi Arabia. 

Proceeds from the day went to The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House and Lindsay Atkins from charity told the players how their generosity would be used to help the hospice.

The captain thanked members who gave up their time to help and, following an auction and presentation of prizes, the captains were able to announce that more than £8,000 had been raised.

Overall winners were Ray Johnson and Robert Goddard, form the host club, playing with Paul and Geoff Lane, from Royal Norwich, with a score of 90 points. 

The first home players award went to Anita Goddard, Adrian Thorarinsson, David Goddard and Geoff Cheney, with 88 points, a point ahead of Mark Day, Lloyd Dixon, Josh Dixon and Olly Perry.

A team from Woodhall Spa, Portgate and Lincoln won the away team award.

Nearest the pins honours went to Chris White (Hunstanton) 5th gentlemen, and Maureen Paulson (Newark) 16th ladies. 18th second shot winners were Gill Lamming (Sleaford) and Joshy Ring (Lynn).
