GOLF: Strong wind and rain meant a tough time for competitors in Heacham Manor Golf Club’s ninth annual Junior Open.

But the youngsters rose to the task in the competition, which ran in two formats. The older and more experienced juniors played an 18-hole stableford with an additional prize for the best gross score, a 12-hole event also took place for golfers with handicaps over 28. 

Charles Ess from Middleton Hall Golf Club showed form in the 12-hole competition, winning with a superb 30 points, Archie Edgson was second with 25 points

The main stableford event was a tight contest with some great scores achieved. 

Heacham Manor’s Chloe Tarbard took the best gross award with 80.

Joe Sarsby took victory in the main stableford event with a superb 44 points.

Dereham junior George Sommerville came second on 39 points with Alfie Edgson third on countback, also scoring 39.

Edgson did get reward in the longest drive competition and was nearest the pin for the boys.

Polly Norman won the girls’ longest drive award and Chloe Tarbard won the girls’ nearest the pin challenge.

The event was sponsored by Ben Burgess, who provided prizes including Footjoy shoes, clothing, and accessories.
