Tributes have been paid to a mum-of-four who was the inspiration behind a West Norfolk-wide community fundraising campaign.

Heather Bellamy, of Downham Market, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia four years ago, but died on Saturday.

Today, supporters of the family broke the sad news on their Downham to Cardiff fundraising Facebook page.

The post said: “It is with great sorrow that, on behalf of her family, we announce that Heather passed away on Saturday.

“She fought bravely for years against leukaemia, but sadly it took it’s toll.”

Since the beginning of the year, friends, family and the community had been trying to raise £250,000 to send the former nurse to America for treatment.

A funeral service for Ms Bellamy is set to take place on Wednesday, August 14 at 11.30am at the cemetery on Rouse’s Lane.
