Pupils at Nelson Academy in Downham Market were surprised with a backstage tour of a London West End theatre.
Members of the school’s theatre club were taken on a trip to see Wicked, and during a backstage tour they were presented with an Artsmark Award which the school has achieved for its arts and culture provision.
Artsmark is awarded by Arts Council England to bring arts and culture to life in classrooms.
The school took part in a two-year process where it developed its arts provision.
Teacher Gill Sekatawa said: “We have taken part in dance festivals, added dance classes, had artists and musicians come in to the school and taken part in the Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios.”
Sarah Wilson, the academy’s principal, said: “We’re extremely proud of achieving our Artsmark Silver Award.
“We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education and we look forward to continuing to grow with Artsmark.”
Mrs Wilson said receiving the award at the theatre had been an experience children and staff would never forget.
