GOLF: King’s Lynn Golf Club ladies captain Anita Goddard and vice-captain Mary Wilson held a competition for female members in a busy summer golfing season.

Players had anxiously been watching the weather forecast since the evening before as rain was predicted but all players were lucky in finishing play before it rained.

Homemade cakes and savoury nibbles were provided at the halfway house with the captain and vice-captain’s husbands on hand to greet the women after nine holes of play, with Pimms and other liquid refreshments.

The competition was followed by prize presentation and tea, which were provided by the captain and vice-captain.

Entry fees for the competition were given to the ladies captain’s charity, The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House, with £82 raised.

Sue Gurr came first in the first division of the competition with a score of 37 points, ahead of Marilyn Barter, 36 and Diane Mann, 34. The division two honours went to Jenny Ebbs, 33, with Angela Mander second, 32, and Helen Rippengill third, 30.

The prize for nearest the pin on the fifth hole was won by Betty Engledow, and one for the 16th by Pauline Ring.
