Staff and patient support workers helped to brighten the week with activities during Dementia Action Week.

Patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, enjoyed a weeks’ worth of events as part of Dementia Action Week, which ended last Sunday.

Patients on West Newton ward took part in activities which ranged from painting bird houses to singing and sports.

Gardening proved to be a particular favourite. Flowers, compost and potted plants had been donated by Heacham Social Club and patients used them to create hanging baskets for the ward’s outside area.

Patients and their families also attended a tea party. West Newton patient support workers worked tirelessly to provide daily entertainment for the patients, a spokesman said.

Fran Carman, ward Sister, said: “It has been fantastic to see the patients interact and get involved with the activities. We’ve noticed an increase in both patients’ appetites and their social interaction.”

Patients also painted rocks ready for a public treasure hunt at Hunstanton beach.
