More than 350 pupils are set to lead by example and help raise money for the Your Local Paper-backed Falls Support Appeal.

Four local primary schools will be taking part in a week of sponsored obstacle courses in support of the appeal to raise £35,000 for King’s Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A total of 385 pupils from The Windmill Federation are getting ready to race from Monday, June 17.

Pupils aged from four to 11 from Tilney St Lawrence, West Walton Community, Terrington St John and Walpole Highway primary schools will be raising money for essential equipment such as sensor wired pads for beds and chairs, scoop stretchers and transfer boards to help prevent and manage patient falls.

Organiser Tilney St Lawrence nursery nurse Savannah Farrell said: “I am very pleased to organise and be involved in raising money for the Falls Support Appeal. All of the children are very excited to take part.

“As a school, we can be part of something greater by helping local people and making a difference to those in need. I’m looking forward to the end result and seeing what our federation can do.”

Sophie Hennells, PE teacher based at Walpole Highway Primary School, said: “I’m delighted to be involved in such an important cause and feel privileged that as a school we can be a part of making a difference to people who need our help.

“All the children are very excited about the obstacle course and are hoping to raise as much money as possible.”

A sponsored obstacle course will be held at a different school each day during the fundraising week.

Laurence Morlaàs, QEH fundraising executive, added: “We are delighted that four schools have decided to support our patients and we are grateful to Savannah and Sophie for taking the lead. We hope the children will have fun doing a physical activity while raising money.

“Hopefully, other schools will follow suit and organise fundraising events and activities such as non-uniform days for example.”
