SPEED SKATING: Birmingham was the venue for the weekend’s first race of the outdoor season for West Norfolk-based Wisbech Inline Speed Skaters.

A team of 10 members from the Walpole Highway club skaters took to the track and brought home medals galore.

Arthur Buckler (pupil boys) made a clean sweep in all four of his races with team-mate Taylor Barker hot on his heels. Barker showed great potential, finishing with two second places and two fourths to narrowly miss out on a podium spot.

Kirby Barker (mini boys) skated impressively to take overall second place.

Flynn McGurk (youth boys) and Warren Eve (junior boys) skated tactical races together, achieving first place in each of their age categories with teammate James Eve (youth) finishing overall second.

Leah Barker (mini girls) and Lucy McInerney (junior girls) also finished first in their age categories.

Mike McInerney took overall second place in the senior men’s races. The team were joined by Karl Bates (senior men) skating for the first time at Birmingham.

The prestigious Ladies Venus Cup 5K was up for grabs with Lucy McInerney gaining second place.

The men’s Keith Lee Boot 10K saw the Eves and McGurk competing for the first time with coach Mike McInerney for the title.

McInerney put in an impressive performance but narrowly missed out on victory to home skater Vincent Henry.
