Fancy dress was order of the day to celebrate the first anniversary.

ATHLETICS: King’s Lynn Junior Parkrun celebrated its first birthday in style on Sunday.

Special ‘dressing-up’ events have always proved popular but the response to the Runsie in a Onesie, to mark one year of the free event was overwhelming.

A large proportion of the 99 junior athletes covering the 2K course in The Walks, Lynn, swapped their usual shorts and T-shirts for onesies, including dinosaurs, princesses and cartoon characters.

Given the fantastic weather, many participants were decidedly warm at the finish and appreciated the homemade cakes baked especially by volunteers.

A new King’s Lynn Junior Parkrun selfie frame, a birthday gift from the core team of six run directors to the children, was also a big hit.

Junior Parkrun is a weekly, free event open to anyone between four and 14 years old and starts at 9am from the area next to the café in The Walks.

All abilities are welcome and children are actively encouraged to participate at their own pace, be that walking, skipping, hopping or running.

Since the first volunteer run event last March, 552 participants have clocked up a total distance of more than 4,350 miles.

Anyone interested in taking part or supporting by volunteering at the Parkruns can visit the event’s web page at
