Three men have been charged with theft of snowdrops from Norfolk’s historic Walsingham Abbey.

Officers stopped a car on the A148 at Little Walsingham in the early hours of Wednesday.

They discovered what a Norfolk Police spokesman has described as a “large number of snowdrops”.

Enquiries established the plants had been stolen from the grounds of Walsingham Abbey.

Two 30-year-old men from the Wisbech area and a 22-year-old man from East Winch were subsequently charged with theft and criminal damage.

All three have been released on police ball and are due to appear before magistrates at King’s Lynn on Monday, March 25.
