Michael Gash earned praise from manager Ian Culverhouse.

FOOTBALL: An outstanding display from Michael Gash helped King’s Lynn Town secure a 2-0 win over Redditch United in the Central Premier League.

Manager Ian Culverhouse was quick to praise the striker for his all-round effort.

“He was outstanding,” said Culverhouse. “His work rate was incredible – 85 minutes on the clock and there he was helping out the left back.

“People are quick to point out his goals-to-game ratio but they need to look at the other side of what he brings to the team.

“Without him, we would be a lesser side.”

A goal in each half helped the Linnets get back to winning ways with Culverhouse shuffling his pack after the previous week’s defeat at Rushden.

In came Chris Henderson, Ryan Jarvis and Aaron Jones at the expense of Joe Robinson, Will Mellors-Blair and Craig Parker.

Henderson had the first chance when he was released by Gash after some brilliant link-up play with Adam Marriott but he fired over.

Minutes later Gash caused mayhem for the visiting defence when his towering header across goal found Marriott but Lynn’s top scorer could not get the ball over the line.

The first goal arrived after 26 minutes when Frazer Blake-Tracy’s corner was nodded in at the back post by Ryan Fryatt.

Aaron Jones nearly doubled Lynn’s advantage early in second half but his mazy run ended with the full back curling his effort narrowly wide of the target.

A fine solo goal from Marriott sealed the points after 76 minutes when a jinking run into the box saw him beat his marker and fire home powerfully from 12 yards.

The Linnets travel to Bedworth United tomorrow, 3pm.

The postponed home fixture with Alvechurch has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 19, 7.45pm.
